Britain’s Ukip enjoys surge in polls

A new survey has cut Britain’s opposition Labour Party’s lead over the ruling Conservatives to seven percentage points while UK Independence Party (Ukip) enjoyed a new surge.

According to the latest fortnightly Observer/Opinium poll, the high level of support for Nigel Farage’s Ukip party will trigger a headache for all three mainstream parties amid two weeks of disputes over immigration and energy prices.

The results show Ukip is the only party to gain while Nick Clegg’s Liberal Democrats, the junior party to the coalition government, are down one point on eight percent.

Meanwhile, the net personal ratings for party leaders are little changed, showing Prime Minister David Cameron on -18, with 33 percent approving of his performance and 51 percent disapproving.

Opposition Labour Party chief Ed Miliband is on -23, with 24 percent approving of his leadership and 47 percent disapproving. And Lib Dem chief Clegg is on -46, with 14 percent approving and 60 percent disapproving.

Opinium Research carried out an online survey of 1,941 British adults aged 18+ from 26 to 29 November 2013.
