Awake Goy IRNA – UK foreign secretary said his talks with the US Congress officials about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have been fruitful.
Boris Johnson said in a video released on Thursday evening that the Iran nuclear deal reached between Tehran and G5+1 (US, Britain, France, China, Russia plus Germany) in Vienna in 2015 was a big step forward.
He accused Iran of alleged efforts for acquiring military nuclear know-how before signing the JCPOA and said that the nuclear deal would curb Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for economic relief.
Johnson referred to his talks with the US congress officials and said that many in Washington share similar views regarding the Iran nuclear issue.
During a visit to Washington on Wednesday, Johnson also supported maintaining the Iran nuclear deal.
Johnson met with Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., on Capitol Hill to discuss the importance of enforcing the JCPOA.
“The Iran nuclear deal makes the world safer. That’s why it is vital that the international community sticks to the deal. It is working,’ he was quoted saying at the start of his visit to Washington, “These are the points I will be making in my meetings in the United States this week.’
“It took 13 years of tireless diplomacy between the UK, US, our European partners and Iran to make the world a safer place,’ he said, ‘Now is not the moment to put that at risk.’
