Firefighters eventually broke into her attic apartment this week after
neighbours complained of a terrible smell.
“There had been no suspicion of a crime and therefore there hadn’t been
the need to authorise a forced entry of the property,” said Maj.
Giuliano Gerbo, of the local Carabinieri.
“She travelled to Egypt a lot, often for long periods of time.”
Police eventually carried out a search of the apartment on Monday and came
across Ms Mount’s body, which they said was so desiccated that it appeared
almost mummified.
The Italian authorities are hoping to locate any relatives in the UK.
