Britons warned over new protests in Cairo

The Foreign Office has warned holidaymakers to expect tension and
demonstrations during the coming days, especially in Tahrir Square and
central Cairo.

“Demonstrations are often on Fridays but can take place at other times,” said
the Foreign Office, on its website. “British nationals should avoid
demonstrations and large crowds, and follow developments on the news.”

It repeated previous warnings about sexual assaults on women during
demonstrations in Tahrir Square.

Should Mohamed Morsi be confirmed as Egypt’s new president, it has been
suggested that he will come under pressure to restrict the sale of alcohol,
and even introduce a ban on revealing beachwear.

However, the
Egyptian Tourist Office told Telegraph Travel last month
that any such
moves were unlikely, and would face strong opposition.
