Buzz for Kristen Stewart in ‘On The Road’: Twitter highlights from Cannes

Twitter buzz was building for Palme d’Or contender On The Road and actress Kristen Stewart on May 23, ahead of the film’s red carpet premiere.

Pairing a Rebecca Minkoff blazer with figure-hugging pants from Balenciaga, Stewart appeared at a Cannes photocall that morning with On The Road co-stars Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst and Viggo Mortensen, and director Walter Salles.

“Look at Ms. Stewart working those @Balenciaga pants today at #Cannes2012! #getitgurl” exclaimed fashion editor Courtney Justice (courtjustice).

Vogue magazine compared Kirsten and Kristen’s luxury styles: “Kristen in @Balenciaga or Kirsten in @dolcegabbana – whose On The Road Cannes look did you like best?” (BritishVogue).

“She looks chic in her Becky Jacket!” remarked Rebecca Minkoff herself with a wink and a nudge (RebeccaMinkoff).

As for the film itself, early reaction justified the 2-hour-plus production’s running time.

“Just saw Walter Salles’ truly epic On The Road in Cannes. Another top production from Film4,” was the response from arthouse network Picturehouse Cinemas (picturehouses).

“‘On The Road’ made me want to travel across America as a starving writer. A bit long, but I felt inspired by its spirit,” wrote Alicia Malone (aliciamalone), TV reporter and film reviewer. “I really enjoyed seeing Kristen Stewart as the free Marylou. Both her critics fans will enjoy.”

“On The Road, yes, is episodic and roaming — how could it not be?” reflected columnist Jeffrey Wells (wellshwood). “But like Salles’ The Motorcycle Diaries it works. Beautifully shot and cut, excitingly performed and deeply felt — much better than I expected.”
