Cabinet to finalise cost-of-living savings

The Queensland cabinet will meet on Monday to finalise cost-of-living legislation before the first sitting week of parliament under the new government.

Cabinet will work through the final details of proposed laws to freeze car registration, reintroduce the $7000 stamp duty concession and freeze electricity prices.

A spokesman for Premier Campbell Newman says cost-of-living legislation will take a priority in the first sitting week of parliament, starting on Tuesday.

Laws governing the way the parliamentary committee system works, including changing the makeup of government and non-government members, is also expected to be debated.

Mr Newman joked earlier last week that Queenslanders would “have to wait and see” if he’s up to the rigours of his first question time.
