Fawcett’s compensation claim led to Canada’s
largest and most complex animal cruelty investigation by the police and the
Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. They uncovered a mass grave of
54 dogs in May last year.
Marcie Moriarty, of the SPCA, said the case was exceptionally emotional for
investigators who uncovered the remains, and the dogs were “disposed of
so callously.”
“We’re very pleased the Crown has approved these charges,” she said. “It’s
always been legal to kill your animal, it just has to be done humanely. By
uncovering the truth, we have spoken out for these animals. We hope that
they will finally be able to rest in peace.”
Fawcett and Outdoor Adventures have claimed that efforts were made to adopt
the dogs to new homes before the cull.
