Chinese ‘Organic’ Contamination: How to Avoid Fake Organic Products

I am about half-way through Wenonah Hauter’s “Foodopoly” and, already, I have been online looking for local coops. The two that I have found within 20 miles of my house purchase their produce from local farmers. My daughter-in-law, who is hell-bent on fully eliminating meat from her diet, and I will be checking them out over the next couple of weeks. I like the idea of sticking as much as possible to organic foods. I prefer that, to the extent possible, those foods be supplied by local farmers/producers, keeping my money in the local economy. I especially like the idea of limiting my subsidization (through my purchases) of the large companies like Coca-Cola, ConAgra, Kraft, General Mills and Kelloggs that now have a stranglehold on the organic food industry.

On so many levels, coops make so much sense.
