On April 7 Bern zoo staff put down a three-month old baby bear, on the grounds that his father’s once affectionate feeling for him turned into utmost aggression, while mom Masha chose to ignore him altogether.

As media report the father bear indeed started posing danger to the youth. A week ago he killed one of his kids already. Zoo staff point out they kept the cub with his parents for the sole purpose of keeping his psyche intact and not to cause nervous outbursts. These, experts claim, result in fits of outrage once a cub is grown-up.

Whatever the reasons formally voiced, the visitors have hardly faith in them, most frustrated with the recent cold-blooded killing of giraffe Marius and a lion family in Copenhagen zoo. The bear cub, like the other animals brutally put to death, could have been relocated to a separate cave or handed over to other wildlife institutions, most agree.
