Droves of Syrian refugees continue to pour into Europe looking for the West to bring them solace, but among their ranks are illegal migrants, admitted criminals, and ISIS sympathizers, according to The Washington Post.
Among true Syrian refugees fleeing the dangers of war, there are those who are attempting to blend in and make it to Europe. From the report:
There are well-dressed Iranians speaking Farsi who insist they are members of the persecuted Yazidis of Iraq. There are Indians who don’t speak Arabic but say they are from Damascus. There are Pakistanis, Albanians, Egyptians, Kosovars, Somalis and Tunisians from countries with plenty of poverty and violence, but no war.
Swimming in the river of humanity are shady characters, too, admitted criminals, Islamic State sympathizers and a couple of guys from Fallujah, one with a fresh bullet wound, who when asked their occupation seemed confused.
“Army,” said one. His friend corrected him. “We’re all drivers,” he said.
While European leaders are preparing to accept legitimate refugees, they are acknowledging the pretenders among them. Austria’s interior minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner recently said, “What we see here has nothing to do with seeking refuge and safety. It is nothing but opportunism.”
Reporters have encountered “plenty” of fakes in the crowd who were quickly exposed when spoken to in the dialect they claimed as their own.
“When asked by a reporter where they were from, [some] men answered, ‘We are from Syria,'” states the report. “When a reporter switched to the North African dialect, the men laughed nervously. ‘We are Algerians,’ they admitted.”
In another instance, another group of men claimed they grew up in Syria but would not speak in Arabic — “only English” — and were unable to locate exactly where in Damascus they “lived.” They “wandered away,” the report states.
There are those that say these “migrants” that are blending in aren’t that much of a problem if they are a problem at all. But footage caught by a local television station in Hungary may tell a different story.
As a camera covering the refugee crisis was rolling at what appears to be a public transportation station, a young unidentified child enters the frame, waves to the camera and makes several passes across his throat with his finger — the universal sign for “off with your head.” While there is no way to tell if this child was goofing off or knows of a plan, no one knows. But the footage is chilling indeed:
The problem that has been created is in sorting through who is a refugee and who isn’t. But with the overwhelming numbers of people flowing in, too many countries are seeing them slip through the cracks.
