The leaders of the Republican, or Grand Old Party (GOP) called for unity among party members and republican voters. House Speaker Paul Ryan described the schism of the Trump supporters and the “Never Trump” factions as arguments that show “the signs of life” in the Republican Party. Ryan added: “What do you say that we unify this party at this crucial moment when unity is everything? … This year’s surprises and dramatic turns can end in the finest possible way”.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson also called for a united front to defeat Hillary Clinton in November.

The call for unity in the GOP echoes the call for unity among Democratic Party ranks after Bernie Sanders was defeated by Hillary Clinton. The “American Democracy’s Two-Party System” has kicked into gear, ready to run any other parties and independents “off the track” until November when Americans, as many non-U.S. citizens perceive it, can either chose between Hernie and Dump or to boycott the election and the two-party system.
