Driver killed as car hits tree and explodes at Greenbank

A MAN has been killed when his car hit a tree and exploded south of Brisbane.

A 34-year-old man from Greenbank died at the scene.

Police said the man’s ute was heading in a southerly direction when it ran off Goodna Rd at Greenbank just after 8pm.

The man’s car collided with a tree and burst into flames.

A QPS spokesman said it was still unclear why the man had swerved off the road.

The driver, the only person in the car at the time, died instantly.

Police from the Forensic Crash Unit are this morning investigating the crash site.

Police closed Springfield Beaudesert Connection Rd, which runs into Goodna Rd, in both directions for a lengthy period while they worked to clear the crash scene last night.

The man’s death brings the state’s road toll to 43 so far this year, 10 more deaths than the same period last year.
