Edward Menez – Don’t Make Family a Surrogate Religion

“The modern families I know give everything to their children, spoil them, attend all their sporting and social events, and basically leave them little or no chance for living their own lives.  These families by and large have no room for God in their lives.”

(Disclaimer- IMO Serving family doesn’t interfere with serving God but it is interesting to see how soccer dad Ed Menez pisses off his Mexican wife and family by saying it does.)

My wife and I had a conversation this evening. Our talk turned to the suitability of whether religious figures should be married or not.  I had read William Cobbett’s  “A History of the Protestant Reformation in England and Ireland” (1827) a year ago. Cobbett showed how charity had substantially declined in those countries once the monasteries were destroyed and the priests (pastors) were allowed to marry under the new Protestant religion.  Cobbett complained that married pastors devoted themselves to their wives and children more, and less to God.

I agree with Cobbett’s hypothesis. A mother or father would be hindered in their loyalties to God if they doted on their family inordinately.  I tentatively brought up the situation of her parents who live with their 37-year-old unmarried daughter, her 1-year-old child, and the father of the child. They also support a 44-year-old unmarried and unemployed daughter.  I insinuated that many families make family a priority over God.  It seems to me that the modern age has forgotten that parents are just caretakers. These children are not their own–they are God’s.

WHAT DOES JESUS SAY?

I began my defense of this argument by referencing the following Bible verse: “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37 KJV).  Does Jesus not make it perfectly clear that loving God should be above loving family?

Jesus also says: “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”(Matthew 5:43-44 KJV).

And finally: “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:36-39 KJV)

Why did I allude to these Scripture verses?  Because nowhere does Jesus say to love your family, specifically.  In fact, Jesus specifically says NOT to love your family more than Him in Matthew 10:37.  And Jesus twice repeats to love your “Neighbour”, and even to love your enemies!

BACK TO THE MODERN WORLD

Can you honestly say that you love God more than your own children (or spouse, parents)?  If not, you are not worthy of Him.

This seems to be a dilemma for many modern families, who like my in-laws, devote their entire lives to “family” at the expense of God.  I’m starting to see now why the tradition of unmarried priests who have no dual-loyalty to God/family, but only to God, was not a mistaken doctrine.

The modern families I know give everything to their children, spoil them, attend all their sporting and social events, and basically leave them little or no chance for living their own lives.  These families by and large have no room for God in their lives.

THE UBIQUITOUS JEWISH CONCLUSION

As with everything else in life, there is always a Satanic Jewish ideology in the mix.  Wikipedia defines that Jewish ideology: “Nepotism is the act of granting an advantage, privilege, or position to relatives or close friends in an occupation or field. These fields may include but are not limited to: business, politics, academia, entertainment, sports, religion, and other activities.”

Yes, it’s nepotism.  It’s family over neighbours and enemies.  It’s family over God.

The definition of nepotism should have an “i.e. see Jew” in the description.  There is no more nepotistic people than the Jews.  Their allegiance is not to God, but to their own family, and to their own race.

It is a Satanic philosophy, contrary to Jesus’ teachings, and completely at odds with merit-based accomplishment.  It’s the ruination of Christianity, as intended by the Jews in league with Satan.  Thus, our modern world.
