Germany Produces Record Amount of Solar Power Through June 2012
Germany can claim another solar power record: In the first six months of the 2012 Germany produced 14.7 Terrawatt-hours from grid-tied solar power, 4.5% of the nation’s total electricity supply, and 10-50% of baseload power each day (CleanTechnica). It’s a new world record for solar power production.
UK Approves 1.14 GW of New Offshore Wind Power Projects
Reuters reports that two new massive wind power projects have been approved by the UK government: the 580 MW Race Banks project, and the 560 MW Dudgeon, both off the coast of Norfolk.
India May Require Domestic Solar Panels for Its National Solar Mission
As the second phase of India’s National Solar Mission approaches, PV Magazine reports that future installations under the program, which aims to install roughly 20 GW of solar power over the next decade, may be required to include a certain percentage of Indian-made solar panels.
GE Halts Construction on US’s Largest Solar Power Factory
Due to falling prices of solar power products around the world, General Electric has halted construction on what would have been the largest solar power factory in the United States.
