A shocking video has been released showing an Israeli soldier executing an injured Palestinian youth in the West Bank, based on recurring accusations of staging stabbing attacks.
After injuring the 23-year-old Mahdi Muhammad Ramadan al-Muhtasib in the city of al-Kalil (Hebron) on Thursday, the Israeli soldier first stood several meters away from the immobilized victim for a couple of seconds, then aimed his gun at him and fired.
The disturbing footage then shows two more soldiers at the scene, seconds later, milling around the fallen Palestinian, but no ambulance or medics are called to tend to him. Finally, Israeli personnel drag Muhtasib’s lifeless body and put it on a stretcher.

At least 2,617 Palestinians have been shot and injured by Israeli forces using live and rubber bullets in the month of October, a Red Crescent officials says.
On Sunday, the Palestinian news agency Ma’an released a report quoting a Red Crescent spokesperson as saying that at least 760 Palestinians were shot with live rounds across the occupied Palestinian territory, while another 1,857 were hit with rubber-coated steel bullets.
At least 5,645 Palestinians sustained injuries, including burns from tear gas canisters and excessive tear gas inhalation.
At least 72 Palestinians were also killed in Palestinian territories by Israeli soldiers in October.
Tensions have been running high over the past several weeks between the Israeli regime and Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Israeli military forces have shot and wounded another young Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank as tensions continue to rise between Palestinians and Israeli forces.
The unnamed Palestinian youth was shot on Sunday morning, when he allegedly sought to stab an Israeli trooper near the holy Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern occupied West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron), located 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of al-Quds (Jerusalem).
There were no immediate reports on whether the Israeli soldier sustained injuries.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces arrested eight Palestinians during a series of raids on a number of houses in the occupied East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
The head of the al-Quds Prisoners’ Families Committee, Amjad Abu Asab, said Israeli military vehicles stormed the Sur Baher neighborhood on the southeastern outskirts of East al-Quds on Sunday.

With almost all votes counted, Erdogan’s ruling AKP party said to win over 49%, comfortably restoring its ruling majority

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has declared victory for his ruling party after preliminary election results showed it restoring its majority in parliament.
State-run TRT television reports that with more than 97 percent of the votes counted, the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, has won just above 49 percent, which would comfortably restore its ruling majority.
“Today is the day of victory but it is also a day for humility,” Davutoglu said, addressing supporters in his hometown of Konya, where he voted.
The preliminary results suggest that the ruling party’s gamble to hold new elections has paid off. Supporters at the party’s Ankara and Istanbul headquarters were already waving flags in rapturous celebrations. Crowds outside President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s home in Istanbul were shouting “Turkey is proud of you.”
The vote is a rerun of a June election in which AKP surprisingly lost its one-party rule due to a strong showing by a Kurdish party. Most analysts had expected AKP to fall short again, but the preliminary results suggest it picked up millions of votes at the expense of the nationalist MHP and pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, or HDP. AKP’s vote tally jumped nearly nine percentage points. The secularist CHP was hovering around the same result as in June.

(JTA) — An Austrian lawmaker who agreed with an anti-Semitic post put on her page has walked back her comments.
Susanne Winter, a member of the Austrian Parliament from the far-right Freedom Party, on Friday responded to an anti-Semitic post by a citizen named Oehlmann Hans-Jörg in which he said that “Zionist money Jews are the global problem. Europe, and in particular Germany, are now getting what they deserve from Zionist Jews, particularly rich Zionist Jews in the USA, for the century-long persecution of Jews in Europe. According to the Zionists, Europe, particularly Germany, should be cut off as economic competitors to the U.S.”
Winter responded: “It is great. You are taking the words right out of my mouth. There are a lot of things I am not allowed to write. Therefore I’m even more pleased about courageous, independent people.”
The post appears to have been deleted from her Facebook page, according to the Anti-Defamation League, which on Sunday condemned the statements.

PARIS (JTA) — Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti-Defamation League, encouraged the Jews of France not to leave their country despite increasing anti-Semitic violence there and a rise in the far right’s popularity.
Greenblatt, who is in Europe on his first working trip abroad as the ADL’s national director, made the statement on Sunday during a panel discussion at the annual convention of CRIF, the umbrella group of French Jewish communities.
Asked whether he believed French Jews should consider emigrating if Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right National Front party, should make gains in the 2016 presidential elections, Greenblatt said he was not an expert on French politics, but added: “This is your country and I don’t think we should allow her or anyone to take it away.”
More than 6,250 French Jews have immigrated to Israel from January to September this year — more than three times the number of French Jews who did so in all of 2012, according to the Jewish Agency for Israel.

(JTA) — Filmmaker Roman Polanski cannot be extradited over a 1977 sex crime conviction in the United States, a Polish court ruled.
The decision announced Friday ends a decades-long quest by the United States for Polanski to serve out his prison term.
Polanski, 81, the son of Polish Jews and a Holocaust survivor, is a Polish citizen. He currently resides in Paris, but is filming a movie in Poland.
He fled to France in 1978 after pleading guilty to unlawful sex with a minor, a 13-year-old girl, during a photo shoot. He served half of a 90-day psychiatric evaluation in prison and fled before he was to be sentenced for the rest of his time. The U.S. has sought his extradition from France and Switzerland.

(JTA) — Iran’s supreme leader said the Islamic Republic would not cooperate with the United States on regional issues, saying its support for Israel shows that their goals are diametrically opposed.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave a far-reaching foreign policy address to top Iranian diplomats on Sunday in Tehran. Excerpts of the address were posted on the leader’s official government Twitter account, which has 161,000 followers.
“The main factor of insecurity in the region is U.S. support for the Zionist regime and terrorist groups,” Khamenei said.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israel Defense Forces intelligence department has called on its officers and soldiers to be wary of attempts to recruit them to America’s Central Intelligence Agency.
The advisory from the IDF’s information security department, which is part of the intelligence department, calls on Israeli military officers to “be aware and report any unusual incidents,” Israel’s Channel 2 reported Sunday.
“Every security body fears having its confidential information leaked,” an unnamed Israeli defense official told Channel 2.
It is not known why the advisory was being issued at this time. U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA, have attempted to recruit Israelis in the past, according to the report.
TEL AVIV (JTA) — An estimated 100,000 people remembered Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin at a Tel Aviv rally marking the 20th anniversary of his assassination that featured speeches by President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton.
On Saturday night at the plaza bearing Rabin’s name, Clinton praised Rabin’s willingness to take risks for peace and exhorted the crowd to finish his work. Clinton guided Israeli-Palestinian negotiations when Rabin was prime minister that led to the Oslo Accords in 1993.
“The next step will be determined by whether you decide that Yitzhak Rabin was right,” Clinton said. “That you have to share the future with your neighbors. That you have to stand for peace. That the risks of peace are not as severe as the risks of walking away from it.”

(JTA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he did not mean to suggest the Nazi attempt to exterminate Jews depended on the Palestinian mufti of Jerusalem.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Netanyahu said Friday that he wished to “clarify” the mufti’s relationship with the Nazis. Netanyahu prompted an uproar by saying in a speech on Oct. 20 that Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini had persuaded Hitler to kill the Jews rather than expel them.
Elaborating on a statement Netanyahu made immediately after receiving criticism for the speech, which some viewed at as absolving Adolf Hitler of some responsibility for the genocide, Netanyahu wrote on Friday: “Hitler and the Nazi leadership are responsible for the murder of six million Jews. The decision to move from a policy of deporting Jews to the Final Solution was made by the Nazis and was not dependent on outside influence. The Nazis saw in the Mufti a collaborator, but they did not need him to decide on the systematic destruction of European Jewry, which began in June 1941.”
Still, “the Mufti was one of those who supported the Nazi goal of destroying the Jews,” Netanyahu added. “My remarks were intended to illustrate the murderous approach of the Mufti to the Jews in his lengthy contacts with the Nazi leadership. Contrary to the impression that was created, I did not mean to claim that in his conversation with Hitler in November 1941 the Mufti convinced him to adopt the Final Solution. The Nazis decided on that by themselves.”

The truce agreed by Kiev and the rebels in eastern Ukraine on September 1 “largely held for the past two months,” a Humanitarian Bulletin on Ukraine, released by OCHA on Saturday, stressed.
“During September 2015, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 43 civilian casualties in the conflict zone (nine killed and 34 injured) – a more than 55 percent reduction compared to an average monthly casualty figure of 95 between February 16 and August 15,” the paper said.

British actress Helen Mirren spoke out against the cultural boycott of Israel on Wednesday upon being honored at the 29th Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles, California.
Talking to press before the ceremony, the Academy Award winner described the campaign to boycott Israeli through cutting off cultural ties as “a really bad idea.”
“The people who are the most inspiring in Israel tend to be from the cultural community. The writers, the directors, the poets, the musicians, they are truly extraordinary people doing amazing work, peace giving work, working towards peace all the time,” she said. “To cut them off is the craziest idea, I don’t agree with it at all.”
Mirren said she agreed with prominent British figures who signed an open letter, published in The Guardian last week, that endorsed cultural engagement with Israel rather than a cultural boycott, as a way to promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
