Amid the blander outpourings of go-George support from fans who have some idea
that Sudan is in Africa, I’ll admit it’s tempting to reach for snark about
how the star got himself handcuffed – perhaps he initiated a new form of
dirty protest by popping DVDs of Batman and Robin through the embassy
letterbox? That’s a felony in most states. It’s easy to be sceptical, too,
about how this kind of media exposure ultimately helps the situation on the
ground, as Rob Crilly, who knows infinitely more about African politics than
I will ever do, has pointed out in this blog.
