A POLITICAL lobby group leader who recently collapsed during a live national television appearance says he’s planning to stand aside from his role.

Simon Sheikh, the national director of activist organisation GetUp! for the past four years, says he had been planning to take a break from the role for several months, the ABC reports.

“I’ve been considering this decision over the last three to four months and I actually made the decision before appearing on QA,” he said.

“But unfortunately, after what happened that night, I had to delay my decision and go back on QA and draw a line under that incident.”

Mr Sheikh collapsed during a July 2 appearance on the panel of ABC’s QA alongside Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella and Climate Change Minister Greg Combet.

He was taken to hospital, where doctors told him he had a clean bill of health, but was suffering from the effects of flu and overwork.
