Greece eager to purchase gas from Iran

SHANA- Director General of Europe, American and Caspian Neighbors Department at Ministry of Petroleum Hossein Esmaili says Greece is interested in gas purchase from Iran.

Esmaili made the remarks in an interview with Shana, referring to the meeting of Deputy Minister of Petroleum for International Affairs and Trading Amir-Hossein Zamaninia and Greece’s Alternate Foreign Minister for European Affairs George Katrougalos in Tehran.

He said the two sides in the meeting had emphasized Tehran-Athens energy cooperation.

He added that Greek companies are interested in activities in Iranian gas and refining industries and purchase of gas from Iran.

The Hellenic Petroleum Company, which is a major refinery in Greece, is one of the European customers of Iranian oil.

Greece’s Alternate Foreign Minister for European Affairs George Katrougalos who is in Iran for several days had already met Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

Katrougalos said Greece attaches high significance to relations with Iran and Athens is also interested in cooperation with Iran in various domains.

The meeting of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras  to Iran will pave the way to expansion of the two-way cooperation and Greece is ready to employ all ways to upgrade economic cooperation with Iran.
