Help rebuild a Palestinian news agency recovering from Israeli attacks, and promote journalism in Gaza

This past May the world’s eyes were on Gaza as Israel carried out yet another callous attack on the besieged territory. It seemed no area was safe as homes, schools, even hospitals, were targeted. And of course, Palestinian media was targeted too as the destruction of multiple high-rise buildings wiped out the offices of several media outlets operating in Gaza. The one-sidedness of the onslaught was reflected in casualty figures of 256 Palestinians, including more than 60 children, and 13 in Israel, while the damage to Palestinian infrastructure was incomparable.

As readers of Mondoweiss know we work closely with several writers and journalists in Gaza, including APA Images, the photo agency the provides the majority of our photojournalism from Palestine. We rely on APA for their professionalism, thoroughness, and bravery, bringing you images straight from Palestine, often as the news is still unfolding. In May, APA’s offices were among those that were destroyed in the Israeli attack on the al-Jawhara tower. Today we are proud to announce that we are partnering with our friends at The Electronic Intifada and the Middle East Children’s Alliance to raise funds to replace APA’s destroyed equipment, and promote journalism in Gaza.

Please join us in making a tax-deductible donation to the Middle East Children’s Alliance’s fund to Support Photojournalism in Gaza. This fund will be used to:

  • Replace APA’s equipment that was destroyed by Israeli attacks;
  • Provide funds for APA to offer media training to youth in Gaza so they can tell their stories to the world through photojournalism.

All donations to support this project should be made directly to the Middle East Children’s Alliance.

Along with many others, Mondoweiss works tirelessly to bring our readers news and stories from Palestine. However, we could not do this without our most important colleagues and partners — those reporting on the ground in Palestine. Please join us today in helping APA recover from Israel’s criminal attack on its offices, and in supporting Palestinian journalism in Gaza.
