The survey says nearly a third tell lies about being 'green'

The next time someone boasts about how green they are, you may be forgiven for being a little sceptical.

Research shows that many people are fibbing about their environmental
credentials because they feel under pressure to be seen to do the right
thing.

Favourite little green lies include pretending to have turned down
the central heating and claiming to cycle or take the bus, when actually
travelling by car.

Thirty per cent of the 2,000 Britons surveyed admitted they exaggerated how often they took their own bags to the shops while 26 per cent claimed to have turned the central heating down.

A quarter said they had pretended to use the bus or a bike before taking their car and 22 per cent did not recycle as much as they claim to.

In a similar vein, three-quarters of those polled said they were worried
about chain stories putting independent shops out of business.

Half of the 2,000 Britons surveyed said that peer pressure had led them
to claim to be more environmentally friendly than they actually are.

Yet, few had changed their shopping habits.

David Thomson, director of policy and public affairs at the Chartered Insurance Institute, said: ‘While there is widespread understanding of the risk posed by global warming, consumers find it hard to comprehend a  solution and so struggle to see the point of doing their bit.

‘However, the pressure to be seen to be green means people aren’t willing to be honest about this thought.’

Being green isn’t just about reducing global warming, but conserving our resources. If you’re the sort of greedy, self interested, wasteful person then your grandchildren will be the ones to suffer.
Whilst there is some debate about man’s actual contribution to global warming the mountains of waster lying around the planet are definitely man’s legacy such an example was the sight of those beaches in the Maldives where a whole island is a rubbish tip should make people think about what they waste.
I have also found, in my experience, that the people who moan about not having enough money to survive on are usually the most wasteful when it comes to energy, food and fuel…so it’s up to you in the end.

In our house we have no choice but to be ”green” my hubby and i cant drive so we have no car. My hubby goes on his bike to work and as we have two kids we have to use the bus to go into town .we have to do recycling as the bins are too small to put much rubbish in and i dont fancy having bin bags all over the garden it looks bad as it is with four wheelie bins in it .

The same can be said for attitudes to race and homosexuality. We say what we are required, by law, to say.

I am also the opposite any time green discussion occur I will always point out the fact that the leading researchers in Norwich were to have faked their evidence and that we haven’t experienced a rice in temperatures since 1998.
Green guilt is just a way of raising tax and controlling people I reject it entirely.

…………… yep….. and you can include your local recycling center operator in those lies too……as they often ship dump ‘recyclable’ refuse onto other countries around the globe.
……… Oh and by the way……………. let’s not forget the biggest liars of ‘environment credentials’ of them all………. climate scientists!

Everything in the same bin for me. I don’t care one jot about all this green who-ha rubbish (scuse the pun).

But you’re the first to moan when someone throws an empty plastic water bottle into your front garden.

A good example of sheeple…

If anything I’m the opposite, I make a point whenever I can to discuss the legitimacy of spurious green policies with the brainwashed and brain dead masses

Why feel guilty about a con to get more money out of you. Left wing tree huggers can go and getv stuffed as far as I am concerned.
