ICC lacks jurisdiction to probe Israeli crimes, Israel insists

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli foreign ministry has claimed that the ICC lacks jurisdiction regarding an investigation into its war crimes in Gaza.

The ministry denied it had agreed to cooperate with the ICC regarding an investigation into crimes carried out by the Israeli army during the latest Israeli offensive on Gaza.

Earlier to these remarks, the ICC prosecutor said: “Israel agreed to cooperate with the ICC as it transferred information about its investigations regarding the issue.”

Israeli Channel 7 stressed that “Israel does not recognise jurisdiction of The Hague regarding the discussion of this issue”.

According to Channel 7, Israel contacted The Hague regarding the legal procedures, but it did not give any details.

Israel is concerned that the ICC would indict it for war crimes over its major offensive on the Gaza Strip, which led to the deaths of 2,160 Palestinians, 500 of which were children.
