Iran ready to supply Jordan with gas

Mostafa Moslehzadeh said that gas could also be delivered to Jordan via ship. Nevertheless, Tehran and Amman must come to an agreement on the matter, Mehr News Agency reported.

Jordanian Energy Minister Khalid Touqan said in July 2011 that his country has received an offer from Iran to supply the Arab nation with natural gas.

Iran sits on the world’s second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, and is trying to grow its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in its South Pars gas field.

The field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share, which is divided into 29 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the world’s total reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.

Spokesman for the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Majid Boujarzadeh, announced on February 5 that Iran’s natural gas production capacity stands at around 554 million cubic meters per day.

The company’s Managing Director Javad Owji said on January 17 that Iran has exported some 7.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2011), marking a 10.5-percent increase compared to the same period last year.
