‘Israel FM may be sacked for corruption’

The far-right minister who has been under investigation on a variety of charges for years, will probably be replaced by head of the Kadima Party Shaul Mofaz, according to the Israeli TV.

The hard-line member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet has been repeatedly indicted over fraud and corruption charges.

Lieberman is suspected of receiving “millions of dollars” between 2001 to 2008, when he served as an MP, and then as a cabinet minister.

Israeli Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein in April 2011 said Lieberman would be indicted on charges of fraud, breach of trust, aggravated fraud, money laundering and harassing a witness.

The Israeli top diplomat, however, denies any wrongdoing and says the police investigations are politically motivated.

Several other senior Israeli officials, including former President Moshe Katsav and former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have also been indicted over involvement in corruption and sex scandals in the past years.
