ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – Police in Grenada say they have arrested an up-and-coming Jamaican dancehall deejay for alleged possession of marijuana hours after he headlined a concert.
Detectives arrested Jamaican rapper Tommy Lee on Sunday at Grenada’s international airport. They did not disclose Monday how much marijuana the 24-year-old, whose real name is Leroy Junior Russell, was allegedly carrying.
If he is found guilty of drug possession in Grenada, Lee faces a maximum fine of $92,000 or a prison term of two years.
It’s not clear if Lee has an attorney. He is expected to make his first court appearance in St. George’s later Monday.
In recent years, numerous Jamaican stars of the brash reggae-rap hybrid of dancehall music have had run-ins with the law in the Caribbean and the U.S.
