Former newspaper executive Mark Jamieson is the Sunshine Coast’s new mayor.
He beat out seven other candidates vying for the top job after the region’s colourful mayor Bob Abbot announced he would not run for reelection.
With 53.86 per cent of the vote counted, Local Government Association of Queensland chief executive Greg Hallam told AAP Mr Jamieson was assured victory.
He held 30.85 per cent of the vote, while his nearest rival Warren Blee had 16.63 per cent.
