Heather Beattie loses bid for council seat

The wife of former Queensland premier Peter Beattie has lost in her bid to become a Brisbane City councillor.

ABC election analyst Anthony Green says Heather Beattie has lost the central ward to the Liberal National Party’s (LNP) Vicki Howard.

Ms Howard has just under half (49.98 per cent) of the vote with 35 per cent counted, easily leading Ms Beattie on 30.17 per cent.

Ms Beattie stood for the Labor party in the Ward after former Brisbane Central MP Grace Grace tried to stand.

Ms Grace was ruled ineligible as she was technically still considered a state candidate.

Meanwhile, Mr Green says LNP candidates have also won in the Karawatha (Kim Marx) and Doboy (Ryan Murphy) wards.

Labor’s wards in the 26-seat council could be reduced to five, he predicts.

“It’s looking like a bad result for Labor,” he told ABC Radio.
