Killing blame on Hollywood or Holmes?

“We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman,” New York Police commissioner Raymond Kelly said on Friday.

James Holmes, a Ph.D. student of neuroscience at the University of Colorado-Denver graduate school, opened fire on viewers during the screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Night Rises in Century Theater cinema in the city of Aurora near Denver early Friday.

Local police Chief Dan Oates said that the gunman was armed with an AR-15 automatic rifle, 12 rounds of bullets, a 40mm pistol and two tear gas canisters.

The masked gunman, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, was immediately arrested in the rear parking lot of the movie theater without any resistance.

Oates said that Holmes’ only interaction with the police department was an October 2011 summon for speeding.

A bomb disposal squad was deployed to Holmes apartment as he referred to explosives at his residence while being arrested, Oates said

The police official added that Holmes had bought over 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet in the past two months.
