Mali’s ex-prime minister re-arrested by forces

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — An aide says a former Malian prime minister has been re-arrested by military personnel just days after being released from custody.

Cheickna Diarra said that Modibo Sidibe was arrested at home Monday night by men who arrived in vehicles marked “military police.” Diarra said he did not know why Sidibe was arrested or where he is being held.

Sidibe was among around a dozen politicians who were arrested immediately after a military coup last month and later released.

The arrest comes as the West African nation is struggling to come to an agreement about how the country should be governed until elections can be held to choose a new president. The coup leaders handed power to an interim civilian leader but their role in the future transitional government has been unclear.
