A man is dead and a teenager is missing after a boat capsized near Venus Bay, on South Australia’s west coast.
The two men were initially reported to be clinging to a buoy near the entrance to Venus Bay on Friday morning, as local boats and emergency services made their way to help them.
One of the men, a 22-year-old from Smoky Bay, was eventually rescued from the water but died on arrival at the Streaky Bay hospital, police said.
A third man, a 22-year-old from Wudinna, managed to swim to shore.
The police, SES, Country Fire Service and locals are continuing their search for the missing 17-year-old from Victor Harbour, while a police helicopter is also being used.
Police said conditions were proving difficult, with high winds and a five-metre swell.
It is believed the rough seas may have caused the boat to capsize, police said.
