Man injured in Melbourne house fire

A man has been injured in a housefire in Melbourne’s west.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Churchill Avenue, Maidstone at 2am (AEST) on Monday.

The man suffered minor smoke inhalation and singed hair and eyebrows.

He was taken to Footscray Hospital for observation.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) says the blaze was contained to the lounge room, causing about $200,000 in damage.

The cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, a classroom has been destroyed by fire and several others have been damaged by smoke in a $150,000 blaze at a primary school in Melbourne’s east.

The fire at Fairhills Primary School in Manuka Drive, Ferntree Gully started about 6pm (AEST) on Sunday.

Police are treating the blaze as suspicious.
