Man to face more charges over Sydney fatal

A man is expected to face fresh charges over a fatal hit-and-run after he turned up to a police station in southwest Sydney.

A 41-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were charged on Monday after an officer spotted a car with fresh repairs during a patrol at Fairfield Heights.

He then followed it to a property on Ligar Street before applying for a search warrant.

About 3.30pm (AEST) on Monday, officers raided the property and seized damaged car parts and panels, believed to be from a 1993-model maroon Toyota Corolla.

The man and woman were arrested at the scene and subsequently charged over a crash at the nearby intersection of Maud and Ligar Streets on June 17.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a 21-year-old male motorcyclist and his 23-year-old female passenger, both seriously injured.

They were taken to hospital for emergency treatment but the young woman died the following day.

Initial investigations revealed another vehicle – most probably a 1991-1994 Toyota Corolla – was involved in the crash but allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

The 33-year-old woman has been charged with fail to stop and render aid after impact causing death and negligent driving occasioning death.

She was refused bail and will appear before Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old man was charged with pervert the court of justice and attempting to conceal physical evidence during a search warrant, and conditionally bailed to appear in court next month.

But crash investigators expect to upgrade his charges after he walked into a local police station about 8am (AEST) on Tuesday.

Police expect he will face court later in the day.

The man, understood to be of Korean background, is facing questioning over the death of 23-year-old Alarna Richardson.

Police expect to upgrade the charges based on evidence uncovered during the search.

“There were a number of parts that we recovered that we’re currently matching up to that vehicle as we speak,” Inspector Phil Brookes told reporters in Sydney.

“We are hopeful that will give us the breakthrough that we need to further this investigation,” he said.
