Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal has rejected any attempts to disarm the Palestinian resistance movement.

Meshaal says the weapons of the resistance are sacred and not up for negotiations. Israel’s called for the disarmament of Palestinian fighters in Gaza in return for the reconstruction of the war-torn coastal enclave. The territory has been widely devastated in 50 days of deadly Israeli strikes that also left more than 2200 Palestinians killed. On Tuesday, Israel and Palestinians agreed on a permanent ceasefire, which Palestinian groups hailed as a victory. Under the deal, Israel will ease its years-long blockade of Gaza and allow humanitarian aid supplies into the territory. Other key issues such as release of Palestinian prisoners and opening of Gaza’s port and airport will be discussed within the coming month. Hamas has pledged not to cease its resistance against Israel until all its demands are met.
