Mum runs over son in driveway tragedy in Sorrento

TRAGEDY has struck a family after a mother ran over her son and pinned her father to the front of her Mornington Peninsula home.

The two-year-old boy and grandfather, 63, were sitting on a bench on the front porch in Morobe St, Sorrento, when the woman accidentally accelerated while parking on the front lawn at about 6pm last night.

Paramedic Russell Calley said the boy suffered a large cut to the head and internal injuries.

“The two-year-old boy was initially unconscious after the accident although his conscious state improved slightly when we arrived three minutes later,” Mr Calley said.

“He was treated by paramedics for more than an hour but tragically he died at the scene.”

Mr Calley said the man received chest injuries and his arm was also crushed.

“He was actually crushed between the car and the wall of the house until he could be freed,” he said.

“The man was given some pain relief drugs and once his pain was under control paramedics were able to put an air splint on his arm.”

The man was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition and paramedics treated the mother at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
