Murder victim identified

POLICE have identified a woman found murdered yesterday in a Caulfield South laneway as 24-year-old Karina Ann Bell of Southbank.

Police had previously released a picture of an ”infinity” symbol tattoo between the thumb and index finger of her right hand to help them identify her.

A baker on his way to work found her body off Glenhuntly Road just after 4am.

Two men were heard quarrelling before the partially clothed body was discovered in the laneway early yesterday.

Police believe she may have been murdered elsewhere and dragged to the laneway.

A local man has told police that he heard a heated argument at 3.20am close to where the baker discovered the body.

”I was awakened by the shouting, it was loud enough to wake me up,” he said.

The laneway is near a shopping strip, between Royal Parade and Imperial Avenue.

Police doorknocked the area yesterday and were making inquiries at nearby businesses.

The woman was found wearing a black and white spotted top and black tracksuit pants with a white stripe down the side.

Detective Sergeant Graham Ross from the homicide squad said police needed help to understand the victim’s last movements.

”She has suffered facial injuries, but how she died we do not know,” he said.
