Mysterious fire follows Emirati family in Al Ain

Fires break out daily following sudden illness of family members.

An Emirati family of 13 in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain is facing what could be a supernatural phenomenon involving the outbreak of small fires at home many times every day.

No one has so far been hurt. The father says the problem has started to drain him and his children psychologically.

The Arabic language daily Al Khaleej, which published the family’s ordeal, said its reporter himself witnessed fires while he was at that house for coverage.

The father, Hamdan Al Katheeri, said the fires started erupting nearly four months ago following the sudden illness of some of his sons. He said he had rushed them to hospital when they started suffering from convulsions and high temperatures but the symptoms disappeared just after they arrived at the hopsital.

“This newspaper sent its reporter to that house to report that strange phenomenon….while there for just half an hour, the reporter witnessed the outbreak of small fire that hit papers, blankets and clothes….there was no explanation for the fires which the family quickly put out,” Alkhaleej said.

It quoted Katheeri as saying he had called the civil defence to control the first fire at the house in Al Maqam area nearly four months ago. “We had expected it was a single fire accident that will not happen again…but fires began to break out and they started to increase by time…we now witness many fire-related accidents at our house every day…we tried to spend some time at relatives’ place but incidents of fire breakouts followed us there,” he said. Katheeri, whose 11 children are aged between two and 19 years, said such strange incidents have put great psychological pressure on his family and have started to detract his children from their school lessons.

“I go to work every day drained psychologically and physically as I remain much worried about my children when I leave them with their mother.”

Alkhaleej quoted Dr Ahmed Al Kabeesi, head of Islamic studies at the Al Ain-based Emirates University, as saying such incidents could amount to what he described as “supernatural phenomena.”

“There is a need to investigate this phenomenon and the family members must be seen by specialists to reveal some secrets,” he said.”You should know that the universe is not en empty space as we see it…it is full of creatures, including angels, jinns (spirits) and humans who possess great capabilities….envy could be one or the factors,” he added.

The paper quoted Islamic scholars as saying Katheeri’s family must start praying, read Quran verses and seek help from Raqis (Quran healers).
