N Korea, Serbia invited to NAM summit

During a meeting with North Korean ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-nam in Pyongyang on Tuesday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Affairs Abbas Araqchi extended President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s invitation for the North Korean leader.

The Iranian and North Korean officials also discussed the expansion of mutual ties.

Araqchi also met with North Korea’s Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun, during which they reviewed ways to develop bilateral cooperation.

On Tuesday, Iran also officially invited Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to the NAM summit.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji extended President Ahmadinejad’s invitation to the Serbian leader.

During the meeting, both sides called for strengthening bilateral relations, in particular in the economic sector.

The 16th NAM summit will be held on August 26-31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iran will receive the rotating presidency of the movement from Egypt for three years during the Tehran summit.

An international organization with some 120 member states and 17 observer countries, NAM represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.
