The head of the world’s biggest food company Nestle said on Friday that rising food prices have created conditions “similar” to 2008 when hunger riots took place in many countries.

“The situation is similar (to 2008). This has become the new reality,” the Swiss giant’s chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe told the Salzburger Nachrichten daily in his native Austria in an interview.

“We have reached a level of food prices that is substantially higher than before. It will likely settle down at this level.

“If you live in a developing country and spend 80 percent of your income on food then of course you are going to feel it more than here (in Europe) where it is maybe eight percent.”

  1. This is the company who’s water they get for free from the Great Lakes is ripping us off and the Michigan Government is only charging Nestle about $300 for a fee. Is that a sweet deal? Then they can sell it back to us for $4 or $5 federal reserve notes. Almost as much as gas or petrol and I think gas was down this week….Only a leach like Nestle (Nest=Nest and Le=Leach) I dont have a problem of companies wanting to make federal reserve notes, but when they start ripping the people off, then that draws the line in the sand…

  2. Nest leach, funny, it seems someone is using their right brain very effectively.

  3. This is only one “notification” of food scarcity coming in the near future. Will you be ready, or will you stand in the food line, getting your vaccine before you get your handout? placeofrefuge2012.com

If prices continue to rise, they will probably start demolishing low density homes built on top of prime agricultural land and cramming everyone back into the cities.

  4. Bread yeast, or “Rapid Rise”, yeast is easy to find in the supermarket. I won’t go into the complete taxonomy/phylogeny of it, but will say it is alive and can die. Enough said. Here’s what the recipe’s don’t tell you: if you don’t activate the yeast, you will make a brick. Your dough will not rise unless it is activated! To activate the yeast, stick it in a cup of 110 degree Faranheit water (let your water get hot out of the faucet, it’ll do) and stir in a packet of yeast. Let it stand for a minute until you see it “bloom” as shown on the right.

  6. The main reason for rising food prices is quite simply displayed on the Fat Belly of Michael Moore.
Share the twinkies Michael Moore. Eat you peas and carrots like Odumba says.

  7. Well maybe if THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX where not overstocking their ratholes prices may come down.

If I were a meterologist, I would find a good place to hide near a clean water source.

  8. This is the shit company that brainwashed African women not to breastfeed their babies because their powdered milk was better. Aids for all their CEO’s would be too for these pieces of excrement.
