Newman can’t guarantee justice jobs

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman can’t promise his government won’t abolish the State Reporting Bureau and make redundant another 200 public servant positions.

The bureau records court proceedings and provides transcripts of court hearings.

Mr Newman told parliament on Wednesday he wouldn’t comment on speculation.

“We don’t respond to speculation about the actual budget, if there is going to be an announcement in budget, it will be announced in the budget,” he told parliament.

“If it is announced before then, it will be announced before then.

“As to that, I can’t say any more.”

Unions fear that the 200 positions will be made redundant over the next 12 months and their work will be outsourced.

The possible mass culling is part of a rumoured 500 job losses yet to be announced in the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
