Olympic Archery: U.S. Men’s Team Wins Silver Medal, Italy Takes Gold

The first medal for the United States comes in men’s team archery, with the team of Brady Ellison, Jacob Wukie and Jake Kaminski taking silver. Italy captured the gold in a gripping match that wasn’t decided until the final arrow landed for a 10.

To reach the gold medal match, the U.S. trio of archers shocked the contingent from South Korea. It was a stunning upset of the defending gold medalists.

LONDON — Italy won the gold medal in men’s team archery at the Olympics on Saturday, beating the U.S. by one point on the final shot.

The Americans’ silver was the country’s first medal of the games. South Korea took bronze.

Michele Frangilli, Marco Galiazzo and Mauro Nespoli hugged and raised their hands in celebration after the final arrow beat the Americans 219-218 at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The gold was Italy’s first ever in the event.
