Olympic Park still not ready for games

On Friday July 13, over 40 team bosses who met at Athletes’ Village, which is one of the seven venues located within the Olympic Park, were shocked to discover that it is not finished yet.

“We were told the Olympic Park won’t open until the 23rd. This is a week later than what we expected,” a member of one of the national teams told the Sunday Telegraph.

“We were assured they are relatively minor but it has come as a surprise because we had been told for some months now that the park was on time and ready, and it isn’t.”

While the London Olympics organising committee (Locog) said the work was on schedule, the 560-acre Park, which will host sports including athletics, swimming, hockey and cycling, is still a construction site.

With the Games’ opening ceremony less than two weeks away, hundreds of construction workers are currently toiling away inside the Olympic Park, laying cables and installing seats.

“It’s looking a bit industrial isn’t it?” said Londoner Chris Allen. “I am not seeing England’s green fields. I do hope it’s going to look better.”

However, director of venues for the organizing committee Locog James Bulley said, “We’re in a good place. We’re on track. There’s nothing I’m worried about.”
