Pakistani fighter jets kill 15 militants

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Press TV on Thursday that the strikes occurred in the remote Bermela, Khadizai, Mamozai, and Samabazar area of Upper Orakzai tribal area. Pakistani military aircraft also destroyed seven militants’ hideouts during the aerial attacks.

The death toll is expected to rise as several militants are trapped under the rubble of destroyed hideouts, and those injured are said to be in critical condition.

The Pakistani military has launched a series of offensives against militants in the country’s semiautonomous tribal region in the past few years.

Despite the Pakistani government’s operations against Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups, they have still been able to spread their influence in various regions of the country and have killed thousands of people.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.

Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
