Perry Zooms to Front of Pack for 2012 GOP Nomination

PRINCETON, NJ — Shortly after announcing his official candidacy, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has emerged as rank-and-file Republicans’ current favorite for their party’s 2012 presidential nomination. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents nationwide say they are most likely to support Perry, with Mitt Romney next, at 17%.

Gallup

These results are based on an Aug. 17-21 Gallup poll, the first conducted after several important events in the Republican nomination campaign, including the second candidate debate, the Iowa Straw Poll, and Perry’s official entry into the race after months of speculation.

Romney and Perry essentially tied for the lead in late July, based on re-computed preferences that include the current field of announced candidates. Gallup’s official July report, based on the announced field at the time and thus excluding Perry, showed Romney with a 27% to 18% lead over Michele Bachmann. Romney enjoyed an even wider, 17-point lead in June over Herman Cain among the field of announced candidates (Gallup did not include Perry among the nominee choices before July).

  2. A quick note on the Texas Youth Commission child sex scandal.

Only 2 people were charged in the scandal that involved over 750 complaints from virtually every TYC facility in Texas. Ray E. Brookings got 10 years in April 2010 after Abbott got hardcore critisism for dragging his heals. The indictment for the two were handed down in 2008. One month after the Brookings conviction, the victims got an out of court settlement (somewhere around $500,000 each) with no admission of wrong-doing. John P. hernandez, then, had his trial venue changed to Lubbock Texas, and just this past Feburary was aquitted on all eleven charges.

This scandal happened in 2004 and 2005, and 7 YEARS LATER after the victims have been paid a half a million dollars, the guy is aquitted from lack of evidence and cooberation (sp?) of statements made by the victims.

Over 750 complaints, finding of sexual abuse at every TYC facility in the country, gladiator nights, child sex orgies, date nights, drugs everywhere, several “special masters” for the facilities, victims all paid off, but ONE GUY gets a conviction for abusing ONE CHILD!

    RIGHT UNDER PERRY’s WATCH!

    • state not country.

And don’t forget, before it was Gregg Abbott, it was Alberto Gonzalez, the AG for the former Texas Gov. George Bush, who resigned when the Texas Rangers exposed this case!

      This is dirty as hell!

  3. if Ron Paul would support the so called “immigrants” my family your freinds they would support him and rally for his election as the next president. This would give Ron Paul God status in our culture believe me. The spanish media will have a field day with this and create a more positive outlook on the candidate. We would have no choice but to bow down to his ideology. So I hope he gives so called “immigrants” legal status. Thank you.

    • There is NOTHING that RON PAUL could do to influence the opinion of the “spanish media” in this country!

More biased than FAUX SNews and MS-GE-NBC combined, Telemundo and Univision are as GLOBALIST as they get! They will be damned if they have their viewers backing RON PAUL.

RON PAUL supports LEGAL immigration and enforcement of the law! BOTH very popular with immigrants who are here legally and thus allowed to legally vote!

  4. Yeah I don’t know where they get these phony numbers. Who the hell do they poll? 300 junior high school sheep from Montana? I don’t think anybody even knows who Rick Perry is without seeing him on some televised debate, which he hasn’t been yet. No one in my area cares about govt truth or govt at all, except for a few intellectuals. Guaranteed 80% don’t care at all and will probably vote for the one they think looks like the best president or the one who sounds like they have the best presidential name or whatever small facts their church members told them. Everyone is a brainwashed sheep and believes their tv because they have smiling faces and speak with confidence and are in a suit. I hate that. I hate, hate HATE how no one cares about shit that they have to think and use their brain to understand. All they want to do is live their little lives. And all I tell them is that these issues are going to change your little life, routine, motives, everything. It is pointless to only be concerned with “just trying to make it” and not worry about the govt issues, because the govt issues can change our ABILITY to ever “make it.” I am spreading the word of the awesome Ron Paul (please please win oh god please) and the evil bankers and elite and alternative news stories to hopefully help better my ability to “make it.” I spread the word to hopefully help our children’s ability to “make it” in the future and our grandchildren and so forth. Fuk the fed, Fuk the elite, Fuk the NWO, and most of all Fuk anyone who doesn’t give a Damn about what all of us here know is true and are trying to end.
Sorry for the rant. Lol. Just like I said, I hate it.

  5. so IRS agent Bachmann can’t win when there’s no free Randy Travis concert involved.

    • will big media now give Ron Paul more coverage than Michelle Bachmann? I don’t hold my breath.

  6. Perry for Prisoner 2012!

    • The Republican primaries are going to be a farce. Democans know who their candidate is, so they’re becoming Republicrats so they can vote in their favorite Repocrabrat.

  7. he’s all for the globalists NAFTA superhighway and helps steal land for its construction.

his illegal “mandatory guardasil” killed-harmed-sterilized young girls..

and this is a topic ALEX wont touch:
when it was exposed that Texas Youth Authority was pimping out young boys,
it landed on the desk of then attorney general alberto (slimeball) gonzales, also “from Texas”,
who offhandedly dismissed it with “well maybe the boys enjoyed it” and investigations stopped.

excuuuse MEEE.. but were GWB, alberto gonzales, and rick perry, regular customers to this?

    • I agree.

When the TYC scandal broke, and Alberto Gonzales had to step down as AG, Jones was all over it. I remember stories about “Gladiator Night,” and talk of rich businessmen and politicians (uh, yea, politicians) paying to take these kids out on dates, having group sex, etc. Ohh and the massive amounts of drugs.

The Texas Rangers got involved and exposed the whole thing. Caused two people to resign as head of TYC facilities, noone got in trouble, and after Alberto resigned as AG, it all went away and out of the media, no mention since.

Perry was the head of Texas during the biggest State of Texas child sex scandal in our states history, yet no mention?

How about that gun show that got shut down, and that vet that went to jail for selling a gun to a guy with a TX DL?

Even that motocycle accident would be a good one to talk about.

But I wondered about the TYC thing myself. Jones should be all over that.

      • It was the Texas Youth Commission TYC, not Authority, if you are searching and can’t find anything.

Texas Youth Commission, child sex scandal, texas ranger investigation, alberto gonzales resigns

        are great search terms.

      • check your data: alex was all over this when it broke and references it frequently.

        • YES! I said that. When these stories broke, Jones was all over them, yet, now, not a word. I just got back from a trip down that rabbit trail. Oh boy there is alot there!

Abbott drug his heals, Perry appointed an attorney that is now over at TxDOT working out the mess for $360,000 a year, and is known for his parachuting in and saving agencies under media scrutiny.

Here is what I have found so far.

          Child sexual abuse scandal

On 23 February 2007, The Texas Observer published a news story detailing allegations of child sexual abuse by staff members at the West Texas State School near Pyote.Following an investigation by the Texas Rangers and the FBI in February and March 2005, two of the highest-ranking officials at the school, assistant superintendent Ray Brookins and principal John Paul Hernandez had been accused of having sexual relations with several students over an extended period. On February 28 Republican Governor Rick Perry dismissed chairman Pete C. Alfaro, who had been named to the commission in 1995 by then Republican Governor George W. Bush, and called for the dismissal of acting executive director Neil Nichols.

On March 2, more allegations surfaced of sexual abuse at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Facility in Brownwood, leaving McAllen Democrat Juan Hinojosa to state that the situation at Pyote “is not an isolated incident.” The same day, the Austin American-Statesman reported its possession of an internal report on the sexual abuse misconduct investigations, with four extra paragraphs that were redacted in the final public version detailing involvement of several top officials in 2005. Also on the same day, Gov. Rick Perry appointed Jay Kimbrough as “Special Master”.

As the scandal gained public attention, more allegations were uncovered. The TYC admitted that at least 10 teenage boys were victimized at the West Texas State School, and newspapers reported on some 750 complaints of sexual misconduct against correctional officers and other TYC employees since January 2000. TYC Inspector General Ray Worsham was later implicated in the alteration of the misconduct investigations report. On 28 March, Gov. Perry appointed Kimbrough conservator of the TYC.

2010 – Jay Kimbrough, often tabbed when agencies are troubled, will get $360,000 in salary and benefits, while Howard Wolf will work as a volunteer

Kimbrough, 62 , has specialized over the past 15 years in parachuting into troubled Texas government bureaucracies and, through an aggressive management style appropriate to his early adulthood as a Marine, making things change. Aside from his most high profile jobs, serving as conservator briefly of the Texas Youth Commission in 2007 and as Perry’s chief of staff in 2008 and 2009 , Kimbrough also intervened at the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the Texas Commission on Private Security and, most recently, the biodefense program at Texas AM University. Until this hiring Friday by TxDOT, he was a special adviser to the AM board of regents.

Adios, Jay Kimbrough! Ed Owens Now TYC Czar
Apparently having done all the damage he can do in the short term, Texas Youth Commission conservator Jay Kimbrough has been named deputy chancellor of Texas AM, where he’ll be the number two man under another former top aide to Gov. Rick Perry, Dr. Mike McKinney (who happens to have been my boss years ago at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission).

Kimbrough’s departure leaves former TDCJ #2 man Ed Owens Czar of the TYC system for the next two years. I’ve already explained why I don’t think he’s a good choice, but it may surprise readers to learn that the Governor did not solicit my opinion before Mr. Owens’ elevation to czar status.

Owens’ wife, Rissie is also a Perry appointee – she chairs the state’s Board of Pardons and Parole, which places an inordinate amount of authority over the state’s corrections system in the hands of this little known power couple.

TYC seems to have fallen off the media radar screen for now, but I hope it continues to receive the level of scrutiny afforded it at the height of session, and that the same spotlight is shone on similar problems at TDCJ (the state settled a lawsuit last year, e.g., that alleged Mr. Owens covered up sexual harassment charges against a high level employee at that agency).

Plenty of TYC employees read this blog, so let me know in the comments what you think of Kimbrough’s tenure at TYC – what he did right and what he did wrong – and what you think are the prospects for the agency under Ed Owens’ leadership?

Ed Owens: My job at TYC is done
During his tenure, Owens filled most of the top TYC management positions with people from the adult prison system, often using emergency conservatorship powers to allow hiring without a formal job application process or ever publicly posting the jobs. Now he’s bailing out, apparently, leaving the agency’s considerable problems to a management team that possesses little juvenile justice experience.

Texas Civil Rights Project wants to know what the holdup is
          June 21, 2009
More than two years after a West Texas grand jury indicted two former state youth prison officials on charges that they repeatedly sexually abused teenage inmates, trial dates still have not been set.

The victims “are not one step closer to justice 26 months later,” wrote James Harrington, director of the Texas Civil Rights Project. “In fact, they are stymied in their effort to find justice — and that is precisely our concern and complaint to you.”

Abbott’s office took over the case after the allegations, laid out in a lengthy and graphic Texas Ranger report, were made public in 2007. The local prosecutor had been given the report in 2005.

TCRP Complains about Attorney General’s Slow Prosecution of TYC Staff Sexual Abusers

          Press Release

TCRP Director Jim Harrington and TCRP Prisoners’ Rights Attorney Scott Medlock held a press conference today to complain about the slow prosecution of two former Texas Youth Commission staff involved in the sex abuse scandal at the TYC Pyote unit five years ago.

They released a letter they had sent to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, pointing out that his office has done virtually nothing to move the prosecutions along since April 10, 2007, when a Ward County Grand Jury issued indictments — 26 months ago.

          June 18, 2009

          Attorney General Greg Abbott
          Office of the Attorney General

Re: prosecutions of sexual abuse of minor children by Texas Youth Commission officials at Pyote

          Dear General Abbott:

We write to express concern about the very slow pace at which your office is handling the prosecutions of two former Texas Youth Commission officials at the West Texas State School in Pyote, Texas, former Assistant Superintendent Ray Brookins and Principal John Paul Hernandez, alleging sexual abuse and molesting of the minor children in their custody during 2004-2005.

Brookins was indicted on two counts of improper relationship with a student, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The grand jury also indicted him on two counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in state prison.

The grand jury indicted Hernandez on one count of sexual assault, a second-degree felony, and on nine counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody and nine counts of improper relationship with a student.

A motion to transfer venue was filed February 19, 2008, sixteen months ago, and has not been ruled on yet. In that period, there appears to be no effort by your office to move these criminal cases along, and that is of enormous concern to us.

Now TYC is a part of the TJCD (or whatever juvie is called)

  8. God help America if this Rick Perry clown get the nomination. I pray I’m wrong because if I’m right, we have some of the most incredible blessed and stupidest people on earth.

    • how do they cook these numbers time and time again, fact RON PAUL is #1….

save some money or you can start your business,

shop smart, all named brand electronics %50 – %75 off, tablets, spycams, HDMI cables $12
      Car DVR’s 1,000′s of items

  9. I wonder if he will look as dazed, dumb founded, or stupid as George Bush did when he can’t answer a question, duh.

  10. Despite his rhetoric against the fed, I believe that Perry is a globalist and will support the fed oligarchs and endless wars as prescribed by his wall street and msm masters. In other words another puppet president. The globalist need to send the young people to die in the endless wars since they have no jobs for them back home, because of their slave labor out sourcing economies.

  11. Can’t the Republi-Sheeple remember back to ’88 and the Inconvenient Truth of running Al Gore’s campaign??????

  12. said it once and i will say it again. Wikipedia Rick Perry.

in college this guy got a 2.22 in animal sciences. Please dont elect this guy to the rep nomination. this guy is more stupid than the way palin presents herself.

  13. Don’t worry all of this is going to change. When the GOP candidates have their next debate the whole nation is going to see just how much of an ASS Rick Perry is! If he had to go up against Ron Paul he’s going to fold like a deck of cards, just like Rick Santorum did and we all know that he dropped out because Congressman Ron Paul embarrassed him in front of a national audience. There is still a lot of time left between now and the nomination. Perry better not get too big of an ego because he hasn’t won anything.

Between Perry and Obama, there is no lesser of two evils.

    • excellent closing point. I’ll be quoting you at some point.

infowarriors, all we have to do is spread word about Ron Paul to make his numbers grow like wildfire… door-to-door, whatever. print off a bunch of RP flyers and stuff them in door handles. I’m going to hit up my entire apartment complex within the next month.
