Police impound vehicle for Mt Isa shooting

Police may have made a major breakthrough in their search to determine why a man was shot and then dumped to die at a northwest Queensland hospital.

Superintendent Russell Miller says a car fitting the description of the one used to dump Aaron MacFarlane, 30, at Mount Isa Base Hospital on Tuesday, has been impounded.

Tests are being conducted to determine if the vehicle, described as a white Holden Commodore sedan by police on Wednesday, is the same one that transported Mr McFarlane.

“As a result of some information we were able to locate a vehicle which fits the description of the one that was involved in dropping off Mr McFarlane at the hospital,” Supt Miller told ABC Radio.

“We can’t confirm if it is or isn’t the one involved until we carry out our forensic examination.”

Mr MacFarlane staggered into hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest around 9.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday. He received surgery but later died.
