Diana’s former butler Paul  Burrell yesterday told how a mystery caller threatened to murder his family and blow up his flower shop.

He said he had been left ‘sick to his stomach’ by the calls in which he was told that his wife, Maria, had been kidnapped.

During a series of abusive messages, the caller also accused Mr Burrell of ‘extorting money’ from the Royal Family.

Mr Burrell, 53, told Chester Crown Court that the calls to his florist’s shop in Farndon, Cheshire, began on June 14 last year.

Police placed a trace on the line and
when they resumed two days later, they were linked to the mobile phone
of 50-year-old Slav Mitev.

Mr Burrell said the most disturbing call referred to his wife, who spends most of her time at their former home in Florida.

‘I remember it because it was the
most terrible,’ he said. ‘He started by saying “Maria, Maria” – that is
my wife’s name – and I said to him, “You know that Maria is not here”. I
said “She is in America” and he said “No she is not, she is here with
me” and he started to laugh.

‘He said “Can you hear her?” and I
could hear in the background a woman crying and sobbing saying “Help me,
help me, please”. I was sick to my stomach.’

Mr Burrell said he put the phone down
immediately and phoned his wife in America. ‘My thought was that maybe
the caller was in the States and had managed to get into my home and had
my wife in custody.

‘She asked me what on earth I was doing and what was the matter but I kept everything away from her.’

Bulgarian-born Mitev, 50, smiled at
Mr Burrell, who was dressed in a blue pin-striped suit, from the dock as
the former butler gave his evidence. Mr Burrell said Mitev had also
told him: ‘There is going to be a big fire. I hope you have the fire
brigade nearby.’

Mr Burrell told the jury that ten
years ago there had been an arson attack on his previous shop. ‘I was
very nervous and thought “My goodness, it is going to happen again”. I
live above the premises and I thought that if this happens, I could be
caught up in the fire.’

Two minutes later, there was another
call which named his grown-up sons, Nicholas and Alexander, in which
Mitev warned he was ‘going to press the trigger’.‘I took that to be a
threat to my two boys,’ said Mr Burrell.

An hour and a half later, a further
call said: ‘A plane is going to blow up with your brother on it.’ He
also made a ‘threat to assassinate’ Mr Burrell before hanging up.

Mitev claimed to have a bomb and
said: ‘Do you know how much shattered glass there will be at your shop?’
Mr Burrell said that the caller then began reading from what sounded
like ‘a very professional catalogue’ when talking about incendiary
devices.

Mitev also asked about Mr Burrell’s
2002 trial for stealing from Diana’ s estate, which collapsed after the
Queen recalled a conversation when he had told her he was keeping some
of her possessions. Mr Burrell said: ‘He asked me how much I had been
able to extort from the royals. I did not reply.’

He then received another call asking
‘Have you kept some ill-gotten gains?’ and ‘Did you keep the photographs
from Hyde Park’ – ‘which confused me’, Mr Burrell added.

During the threatening calls, Mr
Burrell asked Mitev: ‘Why are you doing this? Why do you hate me so
much?’ Burrell replied: ‘He said he did not hate me but he loves me.’

‘Then he asked if I knew why the trial at the Old Bailey had collapsed and said it was because I had witnessed the rape.’

Had Mr Burrell’s 2002 trial not
collapsed, the court would have heard a recording made by Princess Diana
relating to claims that former valet George Smith had been raped by a
member of Prince Charles’s staff.

Mitev has been deemed mentally unfit
to plead to the charge of harassment by making threatening and abusive
calls, the court heard. The jury took 20 minutes to rule   he had
committed the acts alleged against him and Mitev, from Wood Green, North
London, was released on bail for psychiatric reports.

Judge Elgan Edwards said: ‘The sad
thing about this case is his quite irrational belief about where he
believes his problems stem from. He blames Mr Burrell for various
matters which are not Mr Burrell’s fault.’

Mitev is required to make no attempt to contact Mr Burrell, any member of his family or any employee of his shop.

Mr Burrell worked for Diana for ten
years until her death in 1997, moving to the U.S. in 2005 following the
success of his book, A Royal Duty. He returned to Cheshire in 2010 and,
despite claiming to be sick of being in the public eye, has continued to
feature in reality TV shows, most recently dressing up as a clown in
Channel 4’s Celebrity Coach Trip.

He must be running out of Publicity, whats the next TV show is he lined up to do.

I have read Mr Burrell’s book A Royal Duty and found it to be an honest account of the way in which the wheels turned after Diana’s death. Call this man what you like, but he spoke the truth – and revealed the odious Spencer clan for what they are.

ATTENTION SEEKING AGAIN, JACKANORY, JACKANORY jackanory yawn!

Look Mr. Burrell, your appearance on Coach Trip didn`t boost your publicity ebnough, so it looks as though you`re trying another tack. Just go away, we`re not interested.

i didn’t read this and have no intention of reading this…this man has already been declared by a judge to be less than truthful…

Who really cares?

THIS MAN IS A DISGRACE TO THE HUMAN RACE , TO THE NATION, TO THE ROYAL FAMILY, TO HIS FAMILY, TO HIMSELF!

Oh dear I feel a book coming on!!

Will this guy never ever shut up?

ZZZzzzzzzzzz!
