South Australia’s energy watchdog scheme has been expanded to include the state’s water industry.
The Energy Industry Ombudsman will now be known as the Energy and Water Ombudsman SA, and may be called on to resolve disputes between SA Water and its customers that haven’t been settled through internal processes.
Ombudsman Sandy Canale says SA Water has voluntarily joined the scheme ahead of regulatory requirements imposed by a new Water Industry Act.
“This is a positive step taken by SA Water to help their customers resolve disputes,” Mr Canale said in a statement on Monday.
“We are here to investigate, facilitate and resolve disputes which arise and we look forward to helping customers needing our support.”
The service is free and independent, and can handle complaints relating to billing, service connections and supply.
