More than 82 percent of the vote in Alabama and over 93 percent of the ballots in Mississippi have been counted.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is trailing behind at 29.2 percent in Alabama and 31.4 percent in Mississippi.
Mitt Romney is in third place in both states, winning 29 percent of the votes in Alabama and 30.2 percent in Mississippi.
