Senior Chinese Buddhist renounces his vows for love

According to the monks in the temple, Mr Qing did not tell anyone, even his closest friends or his family of his plan. Little is known about his wife, or about how they met.

A spokesman for the Buddhist Association said his resignation at the temple had “been approved” and that they “could not control what he does now”. A successor will be appointed in due course.

Buddhist monks and nuns live a life of celibacy while attempting to attain enlightenment.
