Sasha Cekerevac, co-editor for Penny Stock Detectives, believes that solar energy, within the green energy sector, is still a young industry and not very widely followed. In a recent Penny Stock Detectives article (click here), Cekerevac points to the fact that many countries are still heavily investing in solar energy, which in turn will help propel solar penny stocks higher.

But Cekerevac warns: “One must be careful when investing in a new industry, however, as there will be some winners and some losers regardless of whether they’re penny stocks or big-cap stocks. I want to see a solid business plan and smart management running the green energy firm. This filters out only the solid penny stocks that are able to take advantage of the burgeoning growth of solar investment worldwide.”

Cekerevac highlighted one stock that looks very reasonable: Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited. At just over $5.00 a share and down from a high of $13.59, it trades with a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 4.93. The market sold off on the solar investment thesis last year, says Cekerevac, but many companies are forecasting stronger growth in late 2012.

Cekerevac continues: “There is also the possibility of mergers and consolidation in the green energy space, with penny stocks being the most likely of firms to be bought.”

Another name in the solar investment space that looks interesting according to Cekerevac is Hanwha Solarone Co., Ltd. It has sales to over 50 customers in Germany, Italy, Australia, the U.S., the Czech Republic, Spain, and China.

“I love a bargain and penny stocks, such as Hanwha SolarOne, which had a 52-week high just under $10.00 and is now trading a little over $2.00, are certainly on sale,” stated Cekerevac. “While the market is still settling down and looking for a move up in price, this solar investment firm in the green energy space had a market capitalization of $178 million with over $1.19 billion in revenue, and it was valued at 0.23 of book value.”

“While no one can predict the future,” Cekerevac noted, “with the encouraging guidance from several different firms in varied locations, there is the strong possibility of a sustained rebound in the solar investment space.” “If that were to occur,” says Cekerevac, “we should see these penny stocks move up quite sharply.”
