Three ticket holders share $1.6 billion jackpot.

The drawing for the largest Powerball Lottery ever occurred at 10:59 P.M. Wednesday night, (Jan. 13, 2016), and later three ticket holders were announced winners; one in each of the following states: California, Tennessee and Florida. The Powerball jackpot had risen to around 1.6 billion dollars, which means that each winning tickets is worth some 529 million dollars. During the rush hour of Wednesday evening, ticket buying was at a frenzy level, with waiting lines stretching blocks. It has been estimated that the buying reached a rate of 1.3 million dollars per minute.

Powerball is an American lottery game offered in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It is coordinated by the non-profit Multi-State Lottery Association.

The odds of picking the correct combination to win the super jackpot were 1 in 292 million. Some have calculated this to be about the same odds of being hit by lighting while drowning.
