Sydney fires suspicious, police say

Police believe four fires in Sydney’s south over the weekend were deliberately started and have appealed for public assistance in their investigation.

Emergency services were called to an industrial complex at Durkin Place in Peakhurst at about 4.15am (AEST) on Sunday and found one of the units on fire.

Several items outside the complex had also been ignited, police say.

The fires caused significant damage to the complex and also to a vehicle parked nearby.

Police say fire and rescue services had been called to the complex earlier after several mattresses had been ablaze.

Police were also called to Martin Place in Mortdale shortly after 6am (AEST) on Sunday after mattresses had been set alight in the street.

Officers investigating belive the fires were deliberately lit and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
